Pond Pollinator Habitat
The Native Plant – Pollinator Pond Habitat and Educational Staging Area is our most recent project. We transformed a lifeless muddy drainage pond into a pond filled with life, surrounded by a pollinator oasis, complete with information panels designed by staff.
A main goal of this project was the Educational Staging Area to offer educational programs to schools and organizations. May 2021 was our first Pollinator Ecology program hosting Brookville School District’s Hickory Grove 4th graders, and again in 2022 and 2023. This year is our 4th year, and our first year hosting a different area school district, Clarion-Limestone 4th grade (Strattanville in neighboring Clarion County) will be our guest in 2024. PA Museums Special Achievement Award
Our most recent award is from PA Museums for our new ADA accessible Native Plant – Pollinator Pond Habitat and Educational Staging Area. We were invited to attend their 2022 Annual Meeting & Conference at Heinz History Center, Pittsburgh, to give a presentation on this project. Three JCHC members and staff planned and implemented this project (at right:) Chuck Williams, Board member and owner of Williams Ecological, LLC; Kat Lyons, JCHC Operations Director | Grants; Ken Burkett, JCHC Executive Director. The ADA area next to the pond was graciously funded by a grant from the Christopher & Dana Reeves Foundation. The Pollinator Habitat is now Monarch Waystation #38900, certified by monarchwatch.org in May 2022. Photos below are from this year, 2024.
Time Lapse Photos
We’ve added a new and fun feature at Scripture Rocks Park! Chronolog is a company that specializes in a monitoring tool used by parks, wildlife organizations, schools, museums, and nature centers across the world. The primary mission of this project is to engage people with nature along with record phenological changes at the pond.
While visiting the park, be sure to submit your photo from the Photo Station and help us monitor changes. Click here for instructions on how to submit photos to the project.
